LoadingSupervise across time zones and bandwidth—without claiming a PhD by this certificate.
Online only

Doctoral supervision fails when a candidate in a secondary city waits three weeks for a comment because the supervisor’s only tool is a 40 MB tracked-changes file. This PGCert starts with African time zones, load-shedding, and identity-checked milestones. You will design a meeting cadence, write feedback that can travel as a short PDF, and handle EN/FR co-supervision without erasing one language. African Future University is explicit: completing this certificate does not award a doctorate and does not replace faculty appointment rules at other institutions. It trains practice under the constraints of tuition-free online doctoral study. The award is a graduate certificate. It is not a PhD, not a professoriate, and not an AU research-council post. It is for supervisors who must keep a candidate’s progress honest when both parties are on prepaid data. You will compare a full-time urban candidate with a part-time rural candidate whose fieldwork window is seasonal. Identity-checked milestones are designed, not denied. Completing the PGCert still does not confer a doctorate. Study is tuition-free online aside from the examination fee, over nine months of supervised practice.
Fifteen credits: supervision ethics, time-zone operations, bilingual feedback, and a protocol capstone. Nine months. Examination fee 60. Does not confer a doctorate.

Modules are assessed through a published mix of coursework, applied projects, and examinations. Exam windows are announced in advance so students in other time zones are not forced into overnight sittings. Alternative arrangements are available where documented.
The published duration is 9 months. Teaching language: English + French assessment options. Actual time-to-complete depends on mode and any recognised prior learning.
This is a fully online award. You study from your country. No student visa and no campus relocation are required.
Degree tuition for this award is published as £0 / tuition-free on the online pathway. Examination or administrative fees may apply at checkout — never an annual tuition invoice. Check the Fees page for any extras.
Requirements are grouped on this page (academic, English, documents). Equivalent qualifications are considered. English may be waived after prior English-medium study.
Assessment is typically a mix of coursework, projects, and examinations. Doctoral awards include a thesis or dissertation and an oral examination. Details sit in the programme specification and module outlines.
Recognition of the award for local employment, professional licence, or ministry attestation is decided by your employer or regulator. African Future University publishes verification pages for certificates. We do not claim automatic equivalence in every country.
