LoadingPAYG, agents, and mini-grid customers—not licensed engineering.
Online only

Energy access fails in collections, spare parts, and a technician who is three districts away. This degree starts with enterprise operations. You will model a PAYG book, design a service loop, and write a customer-protection note a regulator can read—without stamping drawings as a professional engineer. African Future University treats off-grid energy as a rural digital-finance and logistics problem as much as a hardware problem. Mini-grids appear as customer relations, theft, and community tariffs, not as a lab course in inverter design. AfCFTA-era appliance trade appears only as import paperwork and standards disputes firms actually face. The award is academic. It is not PE/CEng, not a generation licence, and not employment by any UN energy initiative. It is for managers who must keep lights honest when the harvest fails and the agent’s float is gone. You will compare a PAYG solar book with a mini-grid tariff dispute, including productive-use claims that collapse without spare parts. Identity-checked exams test operations memos, not inverter design. No PE or CEng stamp is issued. Study is tuition-free online aside from the examination fee, with rural last-mile cases required rather than optional colour.
Thirty-six credits: access markets, PAYG and agents, policy and customer protection, and an enterprise capstone. Identity-checked exams. No engineering laboratory is claimed.

Modules are assessed through a published mix of coursework, applied projects, and examinations. Exam windows are announced in advance so students in other time zones are not forced into overnight sittings. Alternative arrangements are available where documented.
The published duration is 18 months. Teaching language: English + French assessment options. Actual time-to-complete depends on mode and any recognised prior learning.
This is a fully online award. You study from your country. No student visa and no campus relocation are required.
Degree tuition for this award is published as £0 / tuition-free on the online pathway. Examination or administrative fees may apply at checkout — never an annual tuition invoice. Check the Fees page for any extras.
Requirements are grouped on this page (academic, English, documents). Equivalent qualifications are considered. English may be waived after prior English-medium study.
Assessment is typically a mix of coursework, projects, and examinations. Doctoral awards include a thesis or dissertation and an oral examination. Details sit in the programme specification and module outlines.
Recognition of the award for local employment, professional licence, or ministry attestation is decided by your employer or regulator. African Future University publishes verification pages for certificates. We do not claim automatic equivalence in every country.
