AFU Women in Leadership Fellows: A Cohort for African Students Who Already Lead Under Scrutiny
Leadership development that ignores the conditions women actually manage is theatre. African Future University has created a fellows strand for women among students and working professionals across Africa who want a serious degree without leaving their country, their job, or their family who already hold responsibility and who study while carrying it.
Fellows remain on their academic programme. Additional clinics cover negotiation, board dynamics, sponsorship versus mentorship, and leading through family and organisational expectation. Sessions are optional, confidential, and scheduled for working hours across time zones.
Zainab Bello, a microfinance risk officer in Kaduna, joined the first cohort. "I did not need inspiration. I needed practice at asking for resources without being punished for asking. That is what we rehearsed."
