UCT and AFU Launch MSc in Renewable Energy to Train Architects of Africa's Green Power Transition

Energy access remains one of the defining foundations of industrialization across the African continent. To address this challenge, African Future University and the University of Cape Town have launched the dual MSc in Renewable Energy & Sustainable Infrastructure.

Engineers enrolled in the program master off-grid solar architectures, wind resource modeling, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and power purchase agreement (PPA) financial structuring. Crucially, the coursework incorporates regional power pool dynamics across WAPP, SAPP, and EAPP.

"Decentralized renewable energy has the power to electrify every rural clinic, school, and agro-processing plant on the continent," remarked the Chair of Engineering. "By uniting UCT's technical energy laboratories with AFU's pan-African digital campus, we provide engineers from 55 nations with elite infrastructure design training without requiring them to abandon their ongoing field projects."

Graduates receive two independent Master of Science diplomas and are recognized by regional energy regulators and multilateral climate funds.
