African Future University's Free Online Undergraduate Degrees Are Built for Adults Returning to Study

African Future University offers its full honours undergraduate catalogue online with zero tuition: business administration, computer science, data analytics, cybersecurity, accounting and finance, psychology, economics, education studies, international affairs, nursing and health sciences, and more.

The programmes are designed for adults who did not go straight to university, or who started and had to stop. "The typical online undergraduate here is not eighteen," said the Dean of Undergraduate Studies. "They are thirty-five, working, with a specific reason for wanting the degree now."

Recognition of prior learning matters for this group. An applicant with professional qualifications, completed modules from another institution, or assessed work experience can apply to have that recognised against parts of the degree, shortening the time to graduation. The assessment is evidence-based and handled by the relevant school.

Hannah Okafor, before her doctorate, completed an honours degree this way while working full time. "I had two years of credit from a course I abandoned a decade ago," she said. "AFU looked at it properly and I did not have to repeat it."

The degrees are marked to a published international standard and externally examined. Examination and administrative charges are published, and exam sponsorship is available. Study is part-time by default, with recorded teaching, published rubrics and a named adviser for the first year.

Applicants without formal qualifications can enter through a foundation route or through recognised experience. The admissions team assesses readiness, not just certificates. The application is at /apply, and open webinars for undergraduate applicants run through the intake.

Staff across admissions, registry, teaching and student services are told to design every process as if the default student is studying after a full day's work: recorded sessions, published rubrics, named advisers, and a library desk that does not close at the end of one country's office hours.
